As a professional farrier, Riley has tested his skills several times in different farrier organizations. He received Level 1 and 2 Journeyman Certification from the Brotherhood of Working Farriers (BWFA) shortly after becoming a full-time farrier.

After successful testing with the BWFA, he moved on to testing with the American Farriers Association (AFA). There he learned the importance of practicing and perfecting his skills. After a few tries, he passed all AFA certification levels, including Certified Farrier Officer. He learned from this experience that becoming a master of the craft is a lifelong pursuit. The more you study the farrier trade, the more you realize there is a lot to learn.

In addition to his farrier certifications, Riley holds a bachelor's degree in business management from BYU-Idaho. He is also currently pursuing a Masters in Equine Science from the prestigious University of Edinburgh. He is also a fierce competitor nationally in farrier competitions. He is fluent in Spanish and worked as the head instructor for the Oklahoma Horseshoe School for 2 years. He and his wife are also the creators and owners of the largest horse hoof care YouTube and Facebook channels on the Internet.
